Green Drinks Middle Georgia-Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Every month, sustainability minded people meet up at informal sessions known as Green drinks, an international organization:

We have a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you'll be made welcome. Just say, "Are you green?" and we will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organizing network.

These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. Green drinks mission, “It's a force for the good and we'd like to help it spread to other cities.”

Events will be held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Calvin's Live(next to the restaurant), 1281 S Houston Lake Rd from 6-7.30pm. Hope to see you there and remember to invite your friends and anyone else who might be interested. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

A green visit with Dad

I've been busy the last couple of weeks with a visit from my father. From day one, we tore down an old patio roof, designed and built a new roof! What fun even though the heat index was near 100 degrees! Thank goodness for a pool! We reused all the wood and metal brackets and purchased metal sheets for the roof. By raising the roof to 14 feet at one end, we were able to install a window found at Habitat for Humanity Restore for a fraction of the cost, what a deal!!

Even though he had to leave a few days before Father's Day, we had the best time working and playing together. I so much enjoy spending time with my dad, learning and exploring ideas or places we have not been to. I wouldn't trade these times for anything and I so look forward to my visits with him either here in Georgia or in California where he resides.

Thank you Dad for all your hard work on this project, for the new tools, and for teaching me new concepts, patience and good times! Happy Father's Day and always! I love you!!
